The prospect of drawing violent parties into mainstream political institutions has long been centrally important in bringing about an end to acute civil conflict. “Bullets and Ballots: Conflict and Peace in Northern Ireland” examined the potential for peaceful settlement after a protracted civil conflict with a unique focus on such a possibility from the point of view of individuals who were themselves deeply involved in conflict and peacemaking.
